The Foundation of Koryu Koshu Kai
The Koryu Koshu Kai was formed to teach, practice, and preserve the older ways and methods of Okinawan Karate. We have derived our methods by training with a first-generation student (Matsumura Jin'an Sensei) of Miyagi Sensei, interviewing five direct students of Miyagi Sensei, conducting over forty-years of research, and from having been taught Goju Ryu Karate by; O'Hara Sensei - Ku Dan, Higaonna Sensei - Ju Dan, and Matsumura Sensei - Ku Dan. Wilson Sensei, Hachi Dan, has studied Ufuchiku Kobudo, Matayoshi Kobudo, some Ryukyu Kobudo, and some Yamanni Ryu Kobudo. He has trained in Kobudo since 1979.
The older methods include important details such as using body mechanics when performing the kata that includes using gravity, rising at certain points, using Go (hard), Ju (soft/fluid), proper body mechanics, and knowing the hidden techniques within the kata (Ukeden). The old ways also include Bunkai (dissecting and analyzing the kata, the kata principles and the fighting strategies). In addition, the old ways are centered around effective and realistic applications. We have also learned and preserve an open-hand version of Sanchin Kata, Suparinpei Ju and Chu.
