Preserving the Ancient Goju Ryu Traditions for a Modern Era
By Shihan Wilson | March 24, 2026
We preserve the Okinawan spirit through a dedicated transmission of effective methods and techniques derived from the old way karate and kobudo were taught. That were developed for combat. This landmark new beginning and identity for our association represents our lifelong commitment to authentic Goju Ryu Karate and Okinawan Kobudo traditions for future generations to master and preserve.

The Future of Traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu
The Okinawan Goju Ryu Kenkyu Kai Executive Committee voted unanimously to change the name of the organization to Koryu Koshu Kai, meaning Old Style of Ancient Methods Association. This name change will better represent that we are an organization that knows, practices, teaches, and preserves the older ways of Okinawan Karate, that are becoming scarcer with each passing year and the passing away of masters who knew and shared the old ways.
In addition, there are many organizations that are named similar to our former name. There is even one identical name to ours that named their organization the same name as ours eleven years after we named ours. These similar names are confusing to new perspective members.
We have created a new LLC, new patches, this new website, and new certificates. Our name now aligns with who we are and what we teach. We also teach and preserve Okinawan Kobudo, but not just one system of Okinawan Kobudo.
